A barrida, or “sweep” in English, is an ancestral spiritual cleansing practice rooted in traditional Mexican curanderismo, where bundles of herbs are used to clear stagnant or unwanted energy from the body and surrounding field, restore balance, and create space for renewal.

This particular limpia draws on the energetic cleansing and protective properties traditionally associated with different herbs. Herbs such as rue, rosemary, basil, chamomile, and lavender are gathered into a bundle and swept down and around the body as part of the practice. The herbs used will vary according to seasonal availability and what feels appropriate for the session.

Each session begins with a plática,  a heart-to-heart conversation where you are invited to speak openly about what you have been carrying, the feelings and experiences surrounding it, and what is asking for your attention. This is a space for your truth to be heard, witnessed, and understood. An herbal tea will also be offered, chosen based on what is shared and what feels supportive for your session.

Throughout the session, I place intentional focus on clearing and protecting the space. Prayer, intention, and other ritual elements may also be woven into the practice. At the close, the herbs are carefully discarded and the space is closed with intention. We then ground together and make space to integrate the experience.
